ARTICLE SUMMARY

Abstract

Gas leakage poses a serious threat to life and property in residential, commercial, and industrial environments due to the widespread use of combustible and toxic gases such as LPG, methane, and carbon monoxide. Early detection and timely response are essential to prevent accidents such as fire, explosions, and health hazards. This project presents the design and implementation of an IoT-based gas leakage detection system using Raspberry Pi to provide real-time monitoring, alerting, and safety control. The proposed system employs MQ-series gas sensors to continuously monitor gas concentration levels in the surrounding environment. The Raspberry Pi acts as the central processing unit, analyzing sensor data in real time and comparing it with predefined safety thresholds to accurately identify gas leakage conditions. Upon detection of abnormal gas levels, the system activates local alert mechanisms such as buzzers and LED indicators to warn nearby occupants. Additionally, IoT integration enables remote alert notifications through email or mobile platforms, ensuring immediate awareness even when users are away from the monitored location. The system supports data logging and cloud storage for historical analysis and safety assessment. Automated safety responses, such as activating exhaust fans or shutting off gas supply, can be integrated to minimize risks and reduce human intervention. The proposed solution is cost-effective, scalable, energy-efficient, and easy to deploy, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Experimental results demonstrate high detection accuracy, fast response time, and reliable operation, proving the effectiveness of the Raspberry Pi-based gas leakage detection system as a modern safety solution.
