Abstract
Agriculture remains one of the most resource-dependent sectors in developing economies, particularly with respect to water usage. Traditional irrigation methods often result in excessive water consumption, uneven soil moisture distribution, and reduced crop productivity. Climate variability, groundwater depletion, and rising food demand have further intensified the need for intelligent irrigation systems capable of improving agricultural sustainability. This paper presents the design and analysis of an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart irrigation framework that automates irrigation decisions using real-time environmental sensing and cloud-based monitoring. The proposed system integrates soil moisture sensors, temperature sensors, humidity modules, and wireless communication technologies to monitor field conditions continuously. Based on sensor readings and predefined threshold logic, irrigation pumps are automatically controlled to ensure optimal water delivery. Unlike conventional irrigation approaches, the proposed model supports adaptive irrigation scheduling, remote monitoring, and efficient resource utilization. Experimental analysis demonstrates that the system significantly reduces water wastage while maintaining crop health and soil stability. The framework is particularly suitable for precision agriculture applications and sustainable farming environments.
